
berhampur,3/12:Commemorating the “International Day for Persons with Disability-2022” on 3rd December, 2022 organised by Barrier Free Access to Persons with Disability Cell (PWD Cell), Berhampur UniversityThe Barrier Free Access to Persons with Disability Cell (PWD Cell), commemorated the “International Day for Persons with Disability” on 3rd December 2022. The theme of the event is “Transformative Solutions for Inclusive Development: The Role of Innovation in Fuelling an Accessible and Equitable World”.
The programme was presided over by Prof. Puspanjali Samantaray, Director, College Development Council (CDC) and Vice Chancellor I/c. Dr Sharada Prasanna Rout, Convenor, PWD Cell introduced the Guests to the audience. Dr. B. Anjan Kumar Prusty, Chairman, PWD Cell briefed about the activities and responsibility of the cell, its vision plan and road map for engaging various stakeholders to make the PWD Cell vibrant. Welcome address was given by Prof. Manas Ranjan Patra, Dean, School of Science and Technology, who stressed upon the need for innovative solutions for Persons with Disabilities. The Chief Guest, Mr. J. Sonal, IAS, Commissioner, Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) shared his ideas and thoughts regarding Divyangjans. He emphasized on the need for a collaborative approach between BeMC, PWD Cell and Ganjam District Administration for undertaking various initiatives. The Guest of Honour, Rtn. Satyakam Patra, President, Rotary Club, Berhampur, shared his valuable inputs and their initiatives undertaken in different segments, and expressed willingness to support the activities of the PWD Cell in the larger interest of the students and society. Prof. P. Samantaray, Director-CDC addressed the august gathering with her thought provoking and informative talk. The programme ignited a sense of awareness and human values among the attendees to make the campus a better place for everyone, especially the Persons with Disabilities.
The commemoration of the day aimed at orienting students, research scholars, faculty members and entire BU campus fraternity, towards sensitisation regarding the difficulties faced by the Persons with Disability. Creating the necessary awareness to make the campus accessible to everyone including the ‘Divyangjans’ was the motto of the event. More than 100 participants of the university have attended the programme. At the end, Tapan Kumar Singh Nayak, proposed ‘vote of thanks’ to the Dignitaries and the audience, on behalf of PWD Cell.
